I do a lot of thinking while I paint. This started off with the idea that I always dream about water, even though I'm not much of a water person. I dream about a water so clean and pure, it's like liquid glass, and if I look into the ocean I can see all the living things in it for miles and miles.
I also began to think about clean water, and its availability. The world is finally becoming more aware of the lack of clean water in many places, and living in Hawaii, surrounded by fairly clean water, both fresh and salt, I know I often take it for granted.
I was inspired to do this painting by this photo, taken by a friend: [link]
I loved the idea of flipping the image, with the figure looking like she's rising UP into the water, rather than down. (Although it was painted to be viewed either way.
This probably took around 14 hours total over the past week.
